Are you having problems with applying for disability benefits or do you know how to apply for benefits? We can help with getting you started with your claim for disability or pension benefits. We start by ordering your service and medical records, which is free.
Claim Processing
There are eight distinct steps that most claims for disability compensation follow. These phases may vary in time depending on the complexity of the claim, the amount of evidence that must be gathered to support the claims, and the type of evidence. You are strongly encouraged to submit as much evidence as possible with your claim to help minimize processing time.
Disability Benefits Questionnaires
With Disability Benefits Questionnaires (DBQs) Veterans now have more control over the disability claims process. Veterans have the option of visiting a private health care provider instead of a VA facility to complete their disability evaluation form.
What Is a Fully Developed Claim?
Generally, an effective date for service-connection for a disability that is directly linked to an injury or disease that was incurred or aggravated by military service is the date VA receives a claim or the date entitlement arose, whichever is later. The date entitlement arose means the date the condition was shown to exist by medical evidence. There is an exception in cases where the claim is filed within one year of separation from active military service. For these claims, the effective date will be the day following separation.
Evidence Requirements
You must submit all relevant evidence in your possession and/or provide information sufficient to enable VA to obtain all relevant evidence not in your possession. This includes the following as part of your application: Discharge or separation papers (DD214 or equivalent) Service Treatment Records if they are in your possession Medical evidence (doctor & hospital reports)
